MMRC-CMC inks MoU to provide distance course to physicians

Kolkata, Apr 19 (UNI) Kolkata-based Mission of Mercy and Research Centre (MMRC) today signed an MoU with Christian Medical College, Vellore to conduct a distance post graduation programme for general physicians in India.

Addressing mediapersons here, MMRC CEO Sanjay Prasad said,''The course have been designed with an aim to stopping the general physicians from reffering patients with minor ailments to multispeciality hospitals,'' '' These patients many a times land up at multispecialities thus spending huge amounts on minor problems as the general physicians do not have access to mordern methodology of health care,'' he added.

Mr Prasad further added that if such physicians are trained properly then could treat the pateints locally and the patients need not travel far.

On the ocassion, CMC Chairperson Dr Atanu Jana said thousands of patients from the eastern parts of the country travel down south for quality treatment.

Elaborating on the two-year diploma course in family medicine, Dr Jana said ,'' This will be the fifth zone that we will be working in. We have sucessfully completed the courses for private practitioners in Delhi, Bang, Vellore and Odamchatram.'' The CMC has chosen 25 participants from Kolkata, Nadia, Vardhaman, Asansol of West Bengal besides Jharkhand, Mizoram and Nagaland.

''We intend to train these physicians so that they can train other fellowmates in their locality,''Dr Jana said adding that the participants have been randomly chosen by Indian Medical Council and Eastern Medical Association.

The course would enable the physians in efficiently handling cases with hi-tech teleconferencing and module base training, Mr Prasad said adding that they are looking forward to conducting such cources in Chennai, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin and Tezpur.
