Celestial wedding of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar performed in TN

Madurai, Apr 18 (UNI) Thousands of devotees from various parts of the Country witnessed the celestial wedding of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar at the famous Meenakshi temple, amidst tight security here today.

Amid chanting of Vedic hymns from the holy scriptures, the celestial wedding was performed inside the temple complex.

Two priests, representing the ''bride and the bridegroom'' performed the rituals along with other priests as part of the ongoing 12-day annual ''Chithirai Brahmotsavam'' festival.

Following the wedding, the idols of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar were taken out in a grand procession in a Palanquin and a silver elephant, respectively. A traditional 'mega feast'' was also arranged inside the temple complex for the devotees, in which at least 50,000 people were served 15 varieties of dishes.
