'State neglecting SHRC in providing infra'

Bangalore, Apr 16: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairman Justice S R Nayak today charged that state administration had failed in providing adequate infrastructure facilities and supporting staff to it.

Speaking after inaugurating a seminar on 'Human Rights' organised by the Bangalore city police here today Justice Nayak said the administration was acting contrary to the constitution by not discharging its duties by denying the SHRC a convenient place to work in.

"The administration is sleeping over many of our requisitions seeking infrastructure facilities and supporting staff," he said.

He said that the SHRC, which was expected to function like any other Universities, was seriously handicapped with short of minimum infrastructure facilities and human resources.

"The SHRC had submitted a draft rules for services and recruitment to both Center and the state government many months back. However it is yet to receive any attention by the respective authorities" he said.

Stating that if SHRC failed in discharging its responsibilities and duties, the Government should be held responsible for it, he said the SHRC was not in a position to investigate in many cases due to lack of cooperation from the state government.
