Circus elephant dies, Carcass of leopard found in North Bengal
Siliguri, Apr 16 (UNI) A carcass of leopard was recovered today from Marapur tea garden under Naxalbari block, about 30 kms west from here, police said.
The three-foot-long fresh corps was discovered by local people near a bush in the garden this afternoon, police added.
It was not immediately known how the wild animal died.
The leopard was about three months old.
The carcass was sent to Sukna's wildlife sacntuary for postmortem.
Elsewhere in Howrah near Kolkata an elephant of a circus party died today.
The jumbo called Moti fell ill in the morning and died this evening.
Veterinarians from Alipur zoo had rushed there to treat the ailing jumbo but could not save the pet elephant.
Ajanta Circus had been organising a show with five jumbos and other animals at Howrah Maidan since April 5.
