TN: VHP to file case on HR

Srirangam (Tamil Nadu), Apr 14: Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) will file a case in the Supreme Court against the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department's (HR&CE) directive not to perform special 'pujas' on the first day of Tamil month of 'Chithrai', marking Tamil New Year's Day.

Talking to newspersons here yesterday, VHP's International Vice President S Vedantham alleged that the VHP considered the directive as a direct interference in the religious faith and rights of the people.

Mr Vedantham said the HR and CE Department was not competent to issue any instruction about the religious rituals. The State Government's order was an attempt to gain political mileage, he added.
