TN denies telephone tapping, threatens action against Daily
Chennai, Apr 14 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today denied tapping of telephones of senior officials and threatened legal action against a newspaper for publishing such a report.
An official release here stoutly denied reports carried by an English daily, that intelligence officials had eavesdropped on the conversation of Chief Secertary L K Tripathy with an official of DVAC.
Such motivated reports and the publication of a conversation between Mr Tripathy and DVAC ADGP S K Upadhyay, as overheard by the Intelligence officials, were aimed at bringing disrepute to the Government, the release said and added that legal steps were being initiated immediately against those responsbile for publishing such reports, which were wrong and far away from truth.
The newspaper had been repeatedly publishing such baseless reports and the Government was initiating legal action, it added.
The daily had recently published a report on tapping of telphones of leaders of political parties. The issue was also raised in the State Assembly. However, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi denied it categorically.
