PM, Somnath, Sonia pay tribute to Dr Ambedkar

New Delhi, Apr 14: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and UPA Chairperson Sonia gandhi today led the nation in paying tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar on his 117th birth anniversary.

They garlanded the portrait of Dr Ambedkar at a function held in the Central Hall of Parliament House here.

Among other dignitaries who paid floral tribute to the architect of the Indian Constitution were Union Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha officials.

A booklet containing the profile of Dr Ambedkar brought out by Lok Sabha Secretraiat, both in Hindi and English, was also presented to those who attended the function.

The portrait of Dr Ambedkar was unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament on April 12, 1990 by the then Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh in recongnition of his many-splendoured services to the nation.
