Issuing of election cards is in progress

Udupi, Apr 12: Atleast 76 per cent of issuance of Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) had been completed in the district and process of taking of photos of the fresh voters would be continued for some more days at village and taluk level by issuing individual notices for some more days, Ms P Hemalatha, the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi said here today.

Addressing a press conference she said that the process of updating the voters name for claims/deletion had been further continued to enable the voters to exercise their franchise in the coming assembly election in the second phase slated on May 16.

With the model of code of conduct already in force, banners, cutouts and posters have been banned during the period.

Strict vigil would be kept on those violating the code of conduct she said adding that the candidates were allowed to erect banners and cutouts at the venue of the meeting only before and after two hours of the meeting.

She said that a total of 4580 personnel have been deployed including 916 PROs and 916 ROs for election duty. Udupi, Kundapura and Karkala have been chosen for mustering, demustering and counting of votes of the five constituencies going to polls on May 16.

There will be a total 7, 59, 596 voters in the district of which women voters outnumbering the men voters with 4,06,890 and 3,52,706 men voters.

There will be 10,186 first time voters who will exercise their franchise after attaining 18 years, she added.
