Antony expresses shock of killing of Indians in Afghanistan

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 12 (UNI) Condemning the killing of Indian workers in a suicide attack in Afghanistan, Defence Minister A K Antony today said the government was contacting the Afghan government to bring home the bodies of the victims.

''It is shocking to hear that our men, who were working for the Border Roads Organisation, were killed in a suicide attack in Afghanistan,'' he told reporters here.

Mr Antony said instructions had been given for immediate release of compensation to the bereaved family. Efforts were also on to bring the injured to the country, he added.

It was unfortunate that such an incident had happened in the last stages of the road works in that country.

The issue was taken up with the Afghan government when a Minister of that country visited India, he said.

Inspite of this, India would continue to work with the Afghan people and the government for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Afghanistan. ''But we would not have any military interference in that country,'' he said.

Two Indians were killed this morning in a suicide attack in South Western Afghanistan.
