Codava Council threatens to boycott elections

Madikeri, Karnataka, Apr 11:The Codava National Council, fighting for autonomous status for the hilly Kodagu district, today threatened to boycott the coming Karnataka Assembly elections as political parties had failed to include its demand for constitutional guarantee for the Kodava community.

Speaking to reporters here, CNC President N U Nachappa said the CNC had boycotted the elections during 2004 polls too and about seven per cent polling was affected due to it.

He regretted that though the CNC was fighting for several years in support of their demands, nothing seemed to move the politicians.

Hence the Council had decided to again call for a boycott of the elections, he said.
