12.2 per cent growth in tourist arrival in 2008
New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The arrival of foreign tourists to India has gone up by 12.2 per cent during the first three months of the current year.
As many as 1.65 million tourists visited the country during January-March this year as compared to 1.47 million during the same period last year.
The Foreign Exchange earning during the period totalled 16,041 million, registering a growth of 21.1 per cent as compared to the first three months of the last year.
Tourism Ministry sources said here today that the growth in the tourist arrivals during the year would surpass the previous years because of strong indications to this effect available already.
