Vegetables kept in bank safe in Maharashtra

Mumbai, April 9 : Having hit the headlines of newspapers across India for their diatribe against Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, the Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is now on roads to show their 'public concern'.

Joining the bandwagon of all non-Congress party, the MNS workers on Wednesday, protested against inflation in a satirical manner.

Protesting against the rising in price of essential commodities, MNS workers queued up and put vegetables, rice, wheat and pulses in the safe lockers of Mahanagari Co-op Bank Limited.

"The price hike in rice, pulses, oil, vegetables and fruits is over 60 rupees per kilogram. If you go to buy rice, it costs us 60-70 rupees per kilogram. If we want to buy pulses, it costs us 120 rupees per kilogram and the prices of batata (potato) have also reached 80 to 90 rupees. The rise in the prices is because the Government has forced it on the people. So we have started to raise our voice against that from today," said Sanjay Naik, a MNS worker.

"The common man deposits his savings and jewellery in safe lockers in bank but if in the coming days, if the prices hike remains the same, we will actually have to deposit the wheat and rice...in lockers," he further added.

The MNS workers said they wanted to tell public that the time has come to keep rice, wheat in bank safe instead of gold and silver.
