No rollback of milk price hike: Rangasamy

Puducherry, Apr 9: Chief Minister N Rangasamy today ruled out the possibility of rolling back the milk price hike in the Union Territory.

Replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly, he said if the administration reduced the milk price there would be scarcity for milk in Puducherry as all the milk would flow to adjoining Tamil Nadu where the price was Rs 18 per litre whereas in Puducherry it was Rs 17.50.

He said PONTLE, the cooperative milk dairy was providing subsidy for the purchase of milch animals and till March 26 this year 4,073 animals were purchased by self-help groups by extending a subsidy of Rs 2,82,18,000.

This had enhanced the milk production by 10,000 litres a day, he said adding that the milk procurement price was hiked by Rs 2.33 per litre from March 21 this year.
