Like DMK in TN, Cong woos voters with colour TVs in Karnataka

Bangalore, Apr 9 (UNI) Taking a cue from the DMK in Tamil Nadu, the Congress today announced free colour TV sets to all families holding the green ration card if it was voted to power in Karnataka in the forthcoming assembly elections.

Informing this to newspersons here, Karnataka Congress Manifesto Committee Chairman C K Jaffer Shariff today said the party would also provide 25 kg of rice every month at Rs two to all Below Poverty Line families if it emerges victorious.

The party has also promised a monthly stipend of Rs 1200 to unemployed youth.

The colour TV sets scheme announced by DMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi before the May 2006 assembly elections to Tamil Nadu Assembly proved to be a hit, helping the DMK bounce back to power.
