Pudukkottai, Apr 9: Members of the Pudukottai Parliamentary Constituency Retrieval Committee observed fast at three places in Pudukkottai district yesterday, demanding status quo for the Parliamentary constituency.
The members appealed to the President, the Chief Election Commissioner and the Prime Minister not to implement the recommendations of the Delimitation Committee, Retrieval Committee President R Xavier said in a statement here today.
The identity of the district would be lost if the Assembly segments of Pudukottai, were apportioned to adjoining districts. It would become more backward as none of the neighbouring districts MPs would take earnest steps for the development of Pudukkottai district, he pointed out.
He said the committee has decided to observe a bandh in Pudukkottai district on April 26, as part of their second phase of agitation.
It might be recalled that the Pudukkottai Lok Sabha constituency would cease to exist after recent delimitation excercise.
