Heavy rains destroy crops in northern India
Hoshiarpur/ Haldwani, April 6, 2008 : Heavy rainfall and hailstorm in northern India has caused heavy damage to the Rabi crops, especially wheat. More than 50 percent of farmer's produce in northern Punjab has been damaged in the very beginning of the harvesting season.
An estimated 10.5 million tonnes of wheat in Punjab was to be produced this year. But, now, there could be a shortage of food grains in ensuring food security in the country.
