Nine day Navratri festival begins in India

Srinagar/ New Delhi, April 6, 2008 : Hindus thronged temples across India on April 06 to offer prayers on the first day of the nine day festival of Navratri.

Keeping up with the tradition, Hindus took out a procession in Srinagar, summer capital of Indian Kashmir, from Katleshwar temple to the temple of Mata Sharika Devi,traversing a distance of 10 kilometers around the city. Chanting hymns and prayers,the elated devotees roamed around the streets to ring in their New Year or Navreh.
