SRFTI to reopen on Apr 14: Dasmunshi

Kolkata, Apr 6: Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi today said the Satyajit Roy Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) here will reopen on April 14. He said the stalemate at the prestigious institute, the only one in the state set up thirteen years ago at the initiative of Buddadeb Bhattacharjee, the then Cultural Minister, was over and will be a gift to the Bengalees on their New Year's day.

Citu-backed security agency men began an indefinite strike from April one after the institute authorities refused to renew the old security agency term and decided to hire a new one. The information minisitry had been looking at all options for early return of the working condition at the institute.

The minister had also held a meeting on April 6 with the management, students and the representatives of the contract labour union of the SRFTI.

Mr Dasmunshi said no one can disturb the working condition at the institute, which would reopen on April 14, and work would start on full swing on the following day.
