NCSC to summon Tikait for his remarks against UP CM

Jalandhar, Apr 8 (UNI) National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has decided to summon Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) president Mahendra Singh Tikait for his alleged casteist remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on March 30.

''Taking suo moto notice, the Commission has decided to summon BKU leader Mahendra Singh Tikait for the derogatory words he used against UP Chief Minister,'' NCSC chairman Buta Singh said here today.

Condemning the incident, he said,''I will approach President Pratibha Patil so that proper punishment be awarded to the farmers' leader for his remarks applicable under Atrocities Against SC Act.'' The BKU leader was booked under the provisions of SC and ST Act for using objectionable language against Chief Minister Mayawati at a rally in Bijnore on March 30. But police failed to apprehend him due to stiff resistance from BKU workers at his native village Sisauli in Muzaffarnagar district.

After negotiation with the administration, the BKU leader surrendered before the police and was later awarded bail by the Bijnore court.
