'Scrapping Meenachil project politically motivated'

Kottayam, Apr 7: Kerala Congress leader K M Mani, MLA, today came down heavily on the LDF Government for scrapping the Meenachil water project, terming the move as ''politically motivated''.

At a press conference here, he alleged that the LDF Government had cancelled the project as it was introduced by the Opposition UDF and it would benefit the pro-UDF Kottayam district, reeling under a drinking water crisis.

The Government had converted the Meenachil project office, functioning at Pala since 1982, into Pamba project division. The new office was brought under the circle office of the Kaveri project at Kalpetta.

Mr Mani warned that the UDF would not allow the Government to drop the project and a strong agitation would be launched against the ''anti-people'' action of the LDF Government.
