Manipuris celebrate New Year Day

Imphal , April 7: People in Manipur today celebrated New Year's Day - ''Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba''. Official sources said President Pratibha Patil expressed her greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion. Besides, Governor Dr S S Sidhu, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and others greeted the people on the occasion.

The Manipuris celebrated the festival by organising grand feasts in every household. As part of the observations, the Manipuris will ascend the Cheiraoching hill in Imphal this evening and all married women will present gifts to their parents. Besides, various cultural programmes will be organised throughout the state tonight.
