New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Alleging that the needy people were not getting ration from fair price shops in Delhi, BJP Delhi Pradesh President Harsh Vardhan today demanded from the Lt Governor that he should order a high level inquiry into the ration bungling of thousands of crores.

''The needy people are not getting ration from fair price shops because the ration meant for them is being sold in the black market. Even earlier, the names of several Ministers of Delhi Government and senior leaders were found in a diary found in a raid.

Even that has not been inquired into. The bungling continues even today,'' Dr Harsh Vardhan alleged in a statement.

He alleged that the Delhi Government was now showing its unwillingness to stamp the ration cards of those having income up to Rs one lakh.

''In order to gain cheap popularity, the Government had announced to provide ration at cheap rates to these people. Now the Government is in a fix after seeing large numbers of these people. It does not want to provide ration to all the people because the Congress leaders are benefitting by selling the ration meant for the people in the blackmarket in this time of price spiral.

''This is the reason why the blackmarketeers are not being raided.

Only some raids have been carried out in order to show the people.

The people indulging in blackmarket of ration are continuing this trade without any fear,'' the Delhi BJP Chief alleged.

Dr Harsh Vardhan said the last date for stamping the APL ration cards was March 31. By this date, more than 13 lakh APL card holders had to get their ration cards stamped for getting ration at cheap rates. In view of the increasing number of people and the demand of the BJP, the Government has extended the last date up to April 15.

It is estimated that by April 15, about 3 to 5 lakh APL card holders should get their cards stamped. By that time, the number of such card holders will increase to 18 lakhs. The number of the card holders living Below Poverty Line in Delhi is 2,88,213. Under Antodaya Yojna, the number of ration card holders is 1,50,235.

He said the total number of ration card holders in the capital was about 29 lakh.

''There are about 25 lakh such needy persons who have not been issued ration cards. It is beyond the capacity of the Government to provide ration to all these people. This is why Food Minister Haroon Yousuf is threatening the card holders getting their cards stamped that they shall be sent to jail,'' the BJP Pradesh President alleged and raised a question that when the Government did not have ration to provide at cheap rates, why they had announced to provide ration at cheap rates to the people having income up to Rs. one lakh? Meanwhile, to voice their protest against the poor public distribution system in Delhi, BJP activists from the party's Kalkaji and Govindpuri mandal took out a 'sankalp yatra' yesterday evening.

Carrying banners, displaying anti-government and high price rise slogans, the activists, travelling on scooters, motorcycles, cars and tempos, went around Kalkaji, Govindpuri and DDA flats.

People from all walks of life participated in the 'sankalp yatra'.
