Bypolls to three seats to be held by old assembly area
Chandigarh, Apr 7 (UNI) Bye-elections held in Haryana for the present assembly tenure will be held as per old Vidhan Sabha constituencies, as a legislator is elected for a period of five years as per the Constitution, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Sajjan Singh said here today.
The by-elections were due in Indri, Gohana and Adampur constituencies of the state due to disqualification of three Congress legislators, including Mr former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, from the assembly.
''If a seat of a Legislative Assembly is fallen vacant due to any reasons, new member is elected only for the rest of the term of the Assembly,'' Mr Singh stated in a meeting of the electoral officers of Gurgaon division held today.
The meeting was held to review the task of preparing photo identity cards, photo voter lists and ensuring effective compliance of the new de-limitation orders.
