TC, SUCI jointly call 12-hour 'Bangla Bandh'

Kolkata, Apr 4: The Trinamool Congress and SUCI today jointly called a 12-hour ''Bangla Bandh'' on April 21 to protest the 'failure' of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and the CPI(M)-led Left Front government in the state to contain the spiralling price rise.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee said that keeping ''Keeping in mind the Board examination she had not yet intensified her movement, but the skyrocketing prices of essentials are affecting everyone. We have no option but to call the bandh to protest the price rise,'' she added. The bandh was called by the Trinamool Congress and its 17-party Progressive Secular Democratic Front (PSDF) and the SUCI.

Later, Ms Banerjee, Opposition leader in the House Partha Chatterjee, Sougata Roy and SUCI's Debaprasad Sarkar, Manik Mukherjee and Ranjit Dhar courted a symbolic arrest.
