Two killed, 30 Vaishno Devi pilgrims injured

Phagwara, Apr 3 (UNI) At least two people were killed while more than 30 piligrims sustained injuries, 17 of them seriously, when a private tourist bus coming from Vaishno Devi overturned near village Khatti on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road today.

Soon after the accident, which apparently occurred as the driver of the killer bus fell asleep, local residents rushed to rescue the accident victims and 17 seriously injured passengers were taken to local civil hospital.

The driver, Partap Singh and a pilgrim identified as Mukesh (25) of Uttar Pardesh, died on the spot, police said.

Senior Medical Officer Dr Kailash Kapoor said the condition of all the 17 injured, including nine women and two children, was stable.

All the passengers were returning to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh after visiting the holy shrine in Jammu.

Police have registered a case.
