Rupee ends weaker at 40.03/04 against USD

Mumbai, Apr 3 (UNI) The Rupee today closed weaker at 40.03/04 per US Dollar as against the previous close of 39.97 in a choppy trading session.

The Indian unit fluctuated in a range band of 39.93 to 40.04 per dollar, before closing about six paise weaker against the greenback amidst limited activities in the interbank foreign exchange (Forex) market, dealers said.

Though Indian bourses posted marginal gains today, shedding most of the early gains following a similar trend in the past couple of days, the rupee slid as dollar gained strenght against most of the major global currencies, a senior dealer with a leading private sector bank.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the USD today at Rs 39.95, down by three paisa as compared to 39.98 a day before.

The six-month premium was quoted higher at 2.52 (2.48) per cent and annualised premium ended at 1.75 (1.68) per cent.

The Rupee ended the session at 62.15 (62.48) against the Euro. It ended at 79.25 (79.18) per unit against the Pound Sterling, while closed at 38.89 (39.20) per hundred units against the Japanese Yen.
