Hogenakkal issue: Agitating PDK leader arrested

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 3: Police have arrested Tiruchirapalli District Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam president Rajendran when he attempted to stop a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus at the central bus stand here, last night, in protest against the opposition to the Hogenakkal drinking water supply scheme.

Police said Mr Rajendran came to the bus stand and attempted to stop the bus, which was about to leave for Bangalore, and raised anti-Karnataka slogans.

He also raised slogans, condemning the Union government's ''failure'' to protect Tamils living in Karnataka, who have now come under attack at the hands of some linguistic fanatics in Karnataka, and wanted the Centre to intervene and ensure that the project was implemented as scheduled, they said.

Later, the bus left for its destination, they added.
