SUCI holds UPA Govt responsible for steep price rise
Kolkata, Apr 2 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today charged the central government with undertaking no remedial measures to contain the unprecedented price rise and called upon the people to start a strong protest movement.
In a statement here, SUCI General Secretary Nihar Mukherjee said, '' The price rise of essentials has made the common people gasp to hold on to bare survival. '' Mr Mukherjee alleged that the Congress-led UPA Government, which till the other day was exuding confidence of an economic upturn and maintaining a combination of 'high growth, low inflation' was now at its wit's end to even invest a suitable explanation of ' low growth and high inflation'.
''Instead of taking appropriate remedial measures to contain the upswing, the government is indulging in all kinds of pedagogic gymnastic to attribute the cause of price rise to uncontrollable factors like spurt in global tariff of essentials and fuel and fall in agricultural output, '' he asserted.
Mr Mukherjee said the whopping increase was due to the outright ''anti-people and pro-capitalist'' policies of the government.
He called upon the people to build up a concerted movement against both the Central and State Governments and force them to undertake appropriate measures to bring down the prices.
