New Delhi, Apr.2 : Dr. Sanjaya Baru, the media advisor in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), will be joining the faculty of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the Institute of South Asian Studies, Singapore from August 1.

Mr. Baru confirmed the news of his new assignment to ANI over phone, saying that it would be a two-year stint.

An economist by training and a former Chief Editor of the Financial Express, Dr. Baru was appointed as the Prime Minister's media advisor in May 2004.

Both Dr. Baru and Dr. Singh enjoyed a close relationship that dates back to the time when the latter was the country's Finance Minister (1991-1996).

Dr. Baru has authored three books, and his latest -- "Strategic Consequences of India's Economic Performance"-- was praised by critics.
