K'taka Govt releases Rs 40 cr for Election process

Bangalore, Apr 2: The Karnataka government today released Rs 40 crores towards expenses for the Assembly elections scheduled to be held in three phases next month, State Election Commissioner M N Vidhyashankar said today.

Speaking to UNI here, he said that the EC had sought Rs 55 crore however, the government has released Rs 40 Crore and has promised to release the balance in a couple of days. Mr Vidhyashankar clarified that the election code of conduct comes into effect with immediate effect and would be enforced strictly since the dates were already announced.
