Journalists go on hunger strike in North 24 Parganas
Barasat, Apr 02 (UNI) Several journalists today initiated a hunger strike in front of the district administrative building here in North 24 Parganas to demand immediate withdrawal of the cases registered against five reporters.
Earlier, a case had been registered with the Barasat police station and action was initiated against some government officials accused of assaulting mediapersons on March 31.
North 24 Parganas Press Bureau president Abhranil Mukherjee alleged that the sections incorporated by the police against the reporters were motivated and maligned.
He also alleged that the government officials were terrorising the mediapersons for highlighting the illegal acts of a section of the government employees.
''The hunger strike will be continued till the administration takes appropriate action against the public servants withdraws the case against the journalists unconditionally,'' Mr Mukherjee said.
