Silver M Nov 08 contract up by 2.25 pc at Rs 23,825 per kg

Mumbai, Mar 31 (UNI) Silver M November 2008 Contract went up by 2.25 per cent at Rs 23,825 per kg at the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) here today in the first ended session, but gold August 2008 contract went down by 0.43 per cent at Rs 12,071 per kg.

MCX's recorded a turnover of Rs 4727.37 crore and 67,851 trades.

MCX Comdex the composite index of metals, energy and agro-commodities edged up by 0.35 per cent at 2704.48. Agri index shrank 1.30 per cent at 1681.54.

Gold turnover was 1898.52 crore, volume 15,742 kgs and open interest 9,632 kgs and silver turnover Rs 922.77 crore with volume of 4,00,240 kgs and open interest of 2,13,070 kgs, a MCX release stated here today.

A mixed trend prevailed in contracts. Only gold October 2008 contract slided by 0.43 per cent at Rs 12,071 per 10 grams. Silver November 2008 contract firmed up by 2.25 per cent at Rs 23,825 per kg and August 2008 contract by 1.61 pc at Rs 23,552 per kg.

Lead and nickel contracts receded. Lead March 2008 contract fell by 1.59 per cent at Rs 111.65 per kg and nickel March 2008 contract by 2.73 per cent at Rs 1,178 per kg.

Tin May 2008 contract shrank by 2.37 per cent at Rs 815 per kg.

Crude oil gained even as August 2008 contract moved up by 1.80 per cent at Rs 4,119 per barrel and natural gas May 2008 contract by 2.87 per cent at Rs 394.20 per mmBTU. CFI contracts remained unchanged.

Most agriculture contracts continued to be in the bearish grip particularly refsoyoil, chana, cardamom, sugarsklp, kapaskhali and potato (Agra and TRWR), moved down. Pepper April 2008 contract lost 2 per cent at Rs 14,285 per quintal. Refsoyoil June 2008 contract lost 2.02 per cent at Rs 589.70 per 10 kgs. Potato (Agra) April 2008 contract fell by 2.11 per cent at Rs 487.80 per quintal.

Tin April 2008 contract topped the list of gainers with a rise of 3.43 per cent at Rs 845.50 per kg and rjkcasseed March 2008 contract by 1.99 per cent at Rs 2,615 per quintal.

Among losers, the top slot went to nickel March 2008 contract that declined by 2.73 per cent at Rs 1,178 per kg and refined soyoil June 2008 contract by 2.02 per cent at Rs 589.70 per 10kgs.

Gold June 2008 contract clocked a volume of 8,029 kgs and nickel April 2008 contract 4,80,000 kgs, the release added.
