London, Mar 31 : A poster for the original King Kong blockbuster has been sold at a movie memorabilia auction for 180,000 pounds.

The 81in-square colour poster was billed as the best example of the last three billboard ads known to exist that promoted the famous 1933 movie, reports The Sun.

The picture was among more than 1,100 items up for grabs at a two-day movie memorabilia sale held at Calabasas, California.

And an original 'Star Trek' phaser fired by William Shatner as Captain James T Kirk was beamed up for 8400 pounds at the sale near Los Angeles.

A full-size, armour plated, animatronic penguin from 1992's 'Batman Returns' fetched 6,000 pounds.

A velociraptor from Jurassic Park II was sold for 60,000 pounds.
