Eye witnesses to Bldg collapse to depose before inquiry ctte

New Delhi, Mar 31 (UNI) Members of the public and eye witnesses to the March 29 collapse of an under construction building in Brahmpuri near Seelampur in East Delhi, which left eight people dead and several others injured, were today invited to depose before the inquiry committee appointed by Delhi Lt Governor Tejender Khanna to probe the incident.

A public notice issued by Deputy Commissioner (North-East) V P RAO on Saturday said,''the eye witness account of the members of the public interested in giving their cooperation should reach the undersigned within three days of the date of this publication so that a report of the findings of the investigation could be placed before the Govt. of NCT of Delhi for their perusal and consideration and for such necessary action as deemed necessary, within the given time frame.'' The notice said the terms of reference of the enquiry committee include looking into the reasons for collapse of the building, extent of loss of lives and injuries to persons, probing whether the disaster could have been avoided; whether there was a lapse on the part of any regulatory agency and, if so, identify the officers/functionaries who should be held responsible for the same; and suggesting measures for avoiding recurrence of similar incidents in future.

The committee has also welcomed members of the public to depose before it by way of swearing on affirmation as an eye witnesses during the proceedings of the said investigation.

At about 0730 hours on Saturday, an under contruction building in Brahmpuri area collapsed, leaving eight dead and 14 injured.
