Police official killed, 9 others injured in road accident

Theni, Mar 30 (UNI) In a gruesome tragedy, a police inspector of the special police team was killed and nine others, including seven policemen were seriously injured, when a police van they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Bodimettu in this district of Tamil Nadu, this evening.

Police said the special police team was returning to Dindigul from Munar after arresting two accused in a criminal case, when the mishap occurred.

While negotiating a bend, the driver of the police van lost control and vehicle rolled down into the gorge.

The deceased was identified as Karnan (47), attached to the Dindigul South Police Station.

All the injured were admitted to the Government hospital at Bodi.

A case had been registered and investigation was underway, the police added.
