MLA and scores arrested in protest against theatre closure
Mumbai, Mar 30 (UNI) Lalbaug MLA, Bala Nandgaonkar was among the scores of people arrested by the city police while protesting here today, against the state government's plans to pull down the Bharatmata theatre, the last of its kind in the city to screen Marathi movies.
The protest was organised by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
The police have taken Mr Nandgaonkar and other male protesters to Matunga police station, while the women have been taken to Bhoiwada police station.
''We are strongly against the demolition of an institution that promotes Marathi culture for commercial purposes'', MNS spokesperson Nitin Sardesai said.
