Mahila Cong to monitor works under NREGA
Jaipur, Mar 30 (UNI) The activists of the Mahila Congress will monitor implementation of works being conducted under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) across the country.
Adressing a press conference here today All India Mahila Congress President and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Prabha Thakur said since fairly good number of women were engaged in the works being implemented under the scheme, it was the responsibility of Mahila Congress to ensure appropriate implementation of all norms under it.
She said all state units of her organisation had been directed to keep a watch on the works to ensure whether all workers were getting due payments, due facilities and proper treatment and also the proper implemetation of the scheme.
Ms Thakur said Mahila Congress would also work as watchdog for safeguarding interests of women, particularly those from weaker sections or in distress or subjected to exploitation of any form.
She said her organisation was also gearing itself up for playing an effective role for eradicating social evil of female foeticide and generating awareness for universal girls' education programme.
She added that Mahila Congress in Rajasthan would play its due role in working for the Congress' victory in the Assembly elections due to be held later this year.
She criticized Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for her "failure in providing good goverance and curbing corruption".
