UPA chairperson arrives in Kashmir on day's visit

Srinagar, Mar 29 (UNI) UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi arrived here today on a day's visit to Kashmir valley to inaugurate and dedicate the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden.

Accompanied by Defence Minister A K Antony, Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz, she was received at the airport by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his Cabinet colleagues and others.

She immediately left for Cheshmashahi to inaugurate Asia's largest tulip garden named as Indira Gandhi Memorial spread over 100 kanals of land, to be extended to 600 kanals in the near future.

The garden at the foot of the Zabarwan Hill, overlooking the famous Dal Lake here will have 60 varieties of early, mid, late and very late blooming tulips which spread a rainbow of red, orange, purple, white, pink, parrot and yellow colours on the garden.

She is scheduled to hold talks with Mr Azad and senior Congress functionaries during her stay at the summer capital before leaving for Delhi in the afternoon.
