Two panchaloha idols of Lord Ganesha seized, one held
Chennai, Mar 28 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Police seized two panchaloha idols of Lord Ganesha, valued at Rs ten lakh, and arrested one person in this connection.
An official release here today said that a special party, involved in surveillance, spotted a man, Srinivasan (47), carrying a gunny bag, opposite to the Central Station.
As he was found moving under suspicious circumstances, the special team detained him and found two panchaloha idols in the bag.
He admitted that the idols were stolen from the house of a temple trustee at Arcot in Tiruvannamalai district. He ascertained through a goldsmith that the idols were panchaloha and brokers told him that it could be sold at a price about Rs 10 lakh.
The police personnel, under the guise of prospective purchases, approached Srinivasan and arrested him.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
