Accidental firing outside PM's South Block office injures cop

New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI) A Delhi Armed Police (DAP) commando was injured after being hit by a bullet ''accidentally''fired from his colleague's carbine outside the Prime Minister's South Block office here today.

The Prime Minister was not in his office at the time of the incident.

Police sources said commando Sanjay was hit on his left thigh when his colleague's carbine fell on the ground, triggering it off.

Prima facie, police have termed it as an accident. But the weapon has been seized and the policeman carrying the carbine has been detained for questioning.

The injured commando was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where his condition was stated to be ''normal''.

The police personnel were deployed outside South Block and were not part of the Prime Minister's immediate security.

Besides the PMO, the Defence Ministry and Ministry of External Affairs are also situated in South Block. The two policemen were part of a security ring deployed outside the building.
