Noisy scenes in TN House over Minister's remark

Chennai, Mar 27 (UNI) Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly for a while following a remark by PWD Minister Duraimurugan, which was later expunged by the Speaker.

Trouble arose during the Question Hour when both the DMK and the Opposition AIADMK made claims and counter claims on taking credit for the construction of a check dam across Vaippar River in Tuticorin District.

When Mr P Chinnappan (AIADMK), who raised the question, credited the previous AIADMK Government for construction of the dam and accused the DMK of not handling the project properly after assuming power, Mr Duraimurugan intervened and made a remark triggering noisy scenes.

There were shouts and counter shouts from both the Treasury and the Opposition benches. However the Speaker expunged the remarks on the advice of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Mr Chinnappan again sought to rake up the issue and criticised the government only to be countered by Mr Duraimurugan in the same vein.

Later, the Speaker expunged the remarks made by the AIADMK member and the Minister from the Assembly records.
