Kolkata, Mar 27 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today said it will ask for media reports and video footage to clear the confusion on former Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee's statement in which he reportedly said Rizwanur had committed suicide.

Defence counsel Samaridtya Pal today pleaded before the court that former city police chief Prasun Mukerjee did not tell the media that computer graphic designer Rizwanur Rehman had committed suicide.

Appearing for Mr Mukherjee, Mr Pal argued before the bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta that the police chief held a press conference to defuse the crisis that had been triggered by the unusual death of Rizwanur.

He said the former police official's statement did not mean that the computer graphic designer had committed suicide. His statement had been 'misunderstood' by the mediamen at the Police Headquarters Lalbazar where the press conference was held,he added.

Mr Pal was pleading for five senior police officials, who had been named by the CBI in the chargesheet.

The CBI had investigated into the mysterious death of the 30-year-old computer graphics designer and filed on report indicting the five police officials on a court order.

The case came to the court after Rizwanur's mother filed a writ petition, saying her son was murdered and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.

The computer professional was found dead on September 21 last, a month after he married Hindu girl Priyanka Todi.
