Senior officers to oversee electoral roll preparation in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 26 (UNI) The Election Commission of India has deputed senior IAS officers of the Delhi Government as Roll Observers to oversee roll preparation and evaluate the quality of electoral rolls regularly, keeping in view the elections to the state Legislative assembly , scheduled for November this year.

Officers appointed as Roll Observer include Secretary (IT), Rajendra Kumar for North-West Distt , Commissioner, Trade and Taxes Archana Arora for West district, Managing Director, DSIIDC Ltd Manoj Parida for South Distt, Commissioner, Food Supp. and Cons. Affairsi V K Dev for New Delhi and North-East Distt, Addl. Commissioner (Engineering) MCD, Naresh Kumar for East and Central Distt and Secretary, Environment J K Jadoo for South-West and North Distt, a Delhi government spokesperson said. The Roll observers will be making first visit in their allotted districts between March 23 to April 5, the second visit from April 15 to April 30, third from May 15 to May 31, fourth between June 15 and June 25 followed by subsequent regular visits and checks with District Electoral Officers and meetings with Chief Electoral Officer.

The visit will be of 5-7 days duration and each Observer has to submit a written report along with personal debriefing to the Commission whenever need be.

Under the provision of Article 324 of the Constitution of India, the Election Commission of India gets the electoral rolls prepared under its guidance for the entire country annually. This time the annual qualifying date for the whole country for revision of electoral roll is January 1, 2008.
