Rs 180 cr multi-speciality hospital by 2010
Barrackpore, Mar 26 (UNI) West Bengal Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta today announced that a multi-speciality medical college and hospital will come up at Debrupayan Nagar (Bodai Mouza) in North 24 Parganas by 2010.
Laying the foundation stone of the hospital here, Mr Dasgupta said in a bid to privatise health services in the state, JIS Group has decided to invest Rs 180 crore in this regard.
The medical college and hospital, to be set up near the crossing of Sodepur-Kalyani expressway and Sodepur-Madhyagram road in the district, will have 770 beds and will start functioning in early 2011.
JIS group Managing Director Charanjit Singh said the first MBBS course under the West Bengal University of Health Science will start with 150 students.
The Finance Minister further asked the group to include an orthopaedic department with a trauma centre along with other multi-disciplinary departments.
He also requested the JIS group chairman to provide free treatment to the poor patients adding that about ten per cent patients were returned by the private hospitals every year.
The proposed hospital will be built on 33 acres of land and will have 1000 employees initially but will be able to generate 3000 employment gradually.
