'Abolish entrance exam for professional courses'

Puducherry, Mar 26: The youth wing of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) today urged the Puducherry administration to take immediate steps to abolish entrance examination for admissions to professional courses in the Union Territory to safeguard social justice.

DMK youth wing Convener R Siva, MLA, in a statement here, said students from rural areas were deprived of higher education because of entrance examination, to avoid which the Tamil Nadu Government had abolished it. However, despite several requests, the Puducherry administration had failed to take a concrete decision on the issue, creating confusion among the students and parents here.

He said the parents were confused whether they should admit their wards in coaching classes for the entrance examination as there was no word from the Government yet on conducting the exam.

The party had expected an announcement in this regard in the Lt Governor's address to the territorial assembly yesterday, but to no avail, he added.
