PTA teachers to protest outside Vidhan Sabha during Budget session
Shimla, Mar 25 (UNI) The teachers appointed by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) today decided to hold a protest rally outside the Himachal Pradesh Assembly during the ongoing Budget session to highlight their plight.
''Over 15,000 PTA teachers from all over the state will stage a protest rally outside the state assembly before April 11 to highlight our plight and pressurise the government to come out with a policy for us,'' association's state president Vivek Mehta said while addressing one-day working committee of the teachers here.
Besides, he said, the association members would hold protest rallies at tehsil level on Saturday and also submit memorandums to respective SDMs, after holding meetings across the state on Thursday and Friday.
Teachers in two districts each would hold demonstrations from March 31 to April five and the protests would culminate with a protest march outside the Assembly on any day between April 6 and 11, Mr Mehta said.
Observing that the present state government was continuing to change its stand over the issue during the past three months, he said even as of now they were not sure as to what was its stand.
Apart from Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, who has not said a word on the issue so far, Education Minister Ishar Dass Dhiman has been saying different things to different people leading to greater confusion, he added.
Asserting that they would hold peaceful agitations in the state until the government acceded to their demands, the PTA's president said they were not or against any political party, but were willing to extend their support to the state government, provided it addressed their concerns.
