Mother's name to be recorded in driving license in Delhi
New Delhi, Mar 25 (UNI) Henceforth, mother's name will be mentioned in driving license, issued in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, a Delhi government order said today.
As per the order, issued by the Jt Commissioner (Ops) Virender Kumar, the form prescribed by the state government to obtain a license in the NCT will give to the applicant an option to mention either the name of father, mother or husband.
Accordingly, all licensing officers have been directed to accept Form 4 where mother's name is mentioned by the applicant and also to record name of mother of the applicant in learner license, in case the applicant so desired.
The order has come on a representation by Mr Vijay Sanghvi, the secretary general of the social communication centre requesting the option of putting the driving license holder's mother's name on it keeping with the February 18, 1999 order of the Supreme Court.
In its order, the apex court, while interpreting the provisions of the Section 6(a) of the Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956 and Section 19(b) of the Guardian and Wards Act, 1890, ruled that mother is a natural guardian and that mother's name can be used by an individual instead of the father's name.
