FEWRAP asks political parties to issue tickets to deserving women
Itanagar, Mar 25(UNI) The Federation of Elected Women Representatives of Arunachal Pradesh(FEWRAP) has urged all political parties to provide tickets to deserving women candidates in the forthcoming Panchayat polls slated for May next.
While stressing on the need to improve the quality of women leadership at the grassroot level of governance, FEWRAP, in a letter to the presidents of five political parties Congress, BJP, NCP, Arunachal Congress(AC) and Peoples' Party of Arunachal(PPA), opined that the party nomination to candidates should only be considered on the degree of motivation, commitment, sincerity and integrity of the aspirants and urged them to look into the matter seriously.
On women leaders' ability for holding higher office in the three-tier Panchayat, the federation urged for ensuring their election at the grassroot to facilitate their participation and leadership.
''There is a possibility of the situation becoming worse if quality candidates are denied opportunity,'' the letter stated.
Focusing on educating the masses on Panchayat elections, the FEWRAP made it clear that the reserved seats were only meant for women candidates and no male could contest in the same, the letter added.
