Farmers Assn demands Rs 10,000 compensation per hectare

Tiruchirapalli, Mar 25: The Tamil Nadu Horticultural Crops Producers Association has urged the State Government to sanction a compensation of Rs 10,000 per hectare for the crops damaged in rains.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, a copy of which released to the press here today, Association State President Puliyur A Nagarajan, said the amount of Rs 4,000 per hectare announced by Chief Minister was inadequate.

He also requested Mr Karunanidhi to instruct the Tamil Nadu Civil Supply Corporation authorities to procure the moisture content paddy from the rain-hit farmers through its decentralized Direct Procurement Centres, without stipulating any condition.

Mr Nagarajan, who thanked Transport Minister K N Nehru for visiting the rain-affected areas of Tiruchirapalli district, requested him to take up the matter with Mr Karunanidhi to get adequate compensation to the rain-hit farmers of the district.
