AP Govt to conduct social audit for 'Indiraprabha' scheme

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government today agreed to conduct a social audit for implementation of the 'Indiraprabha' land development scheme for Scheduled Castes(SCs) following detection of Rs 1.95 lakh worth irregularities in the State.

On the lines of the National Rural Employment Guarantee(NREG) scheme, the State Government was ready to hold social audit to ensure that the scheme was not misutilised, State Rural Development Minister G Chinna Reddy said while replying to TDP member P Aruna during Question Hour.

Mr Reddy said he was ready to visit areas represented by opposition MLAs to ascertain that the land development scheme was implemented properly.

The Minister said Rs 1.95 lakh was misappropriated in Merakmuddham mandal and the project director was directed to freeze bank accounts of the beneficiaries concerned and recover amounts fraudulently drawn.

However, official inquiry showed that the allegations of misuse of funds in Vemali village in Gajapathinagaram mandal and in 14 other blocks were false, he added.

Mr Reddy said 3.18 lakh acres of land out of 3.84 lakh acres, allocated to the weaker sections of people were developed with funds released by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development(NABARD).
